Ask each participant to

Write down 10 words, ideas, or places that you associate with Jerusalem

and

Write down 10 words, ideas, or places that you associate with Tel Aviv

Bring people together into pairs or groups, and have them compare and contrast their lists.

  • Do you share perceptions of the two cities, or do you have a different experience of them?
  • Are there two cities in your country that are similarly contrasted?

Play the song:

After watching the clip, hand out the lyrics.

Have the groups note down all the ways Jerusalem and Tel Aviv are contrasted in the song. In what way does the song match their impressions, and in what ways does it surprise them?

  • Where would you prefer to live? Why?

(The lead singer of the band, Shaanan Streett, still lives in Jerusalem. The rest of the band has since moved to live in Tel Aviv)

Potential follow-up activity

Gather the group’s photographs of Jerusalem and Tel Aviv, and have them create a new video clip set to the song.
