Israel Elections 2015 and 4HQ!
Who would have thought it possible?
While all the cynics were writing off these elections as pointless and meaningless, Yitzhak Herzog and Tzipi Livni were planning something different. They and their publicists have taken a choice that may be electoral suicide, but educational gold. They chose to use the Z word.
Rather the calling the combination of the Labor Party and the Movement Party – the Labor Movement, or Movement of Labor – they chose in Hebrew to call their new party The Zionist Camp. It is the kind of choice that gets Israel education geeks like us rubbing their hands together in glee. Not only that, but the Zionist camp decided to build their first youtube political video around that very idea – a succession of politicians explaining what they think Zionism is (and how they themselves are embodiments of said Zionism).
Not content with giving Makom endless hours of fun, the Likud has returned fire, labeling everyone and everything in the video as “anti-Zionist”.
We have no idea to what extent this kind of carping is in any way relevant to the voter, but it’s fantastic for the educator (and, possibly, for those rare and wonderful souls who really do care about Zionism and its twenty-first century meaning).
